This easy-to-make shelf is perfect for giving your home an industrial decor. Practical, it is manufactured in less than 2 hours!

Tools and materials for making an industrial style shelf:

  1. 1 foam roll (if you choose a roll with a varnish finish)
  2. 1 matte black paint spray on all supports

  3. 1 medium oak varnish
  4. 4 threaded rods 10 mm in diameter
  5. 12 nuts adapted to the diameter of the threaded rods (here 10 mm)
  6. 4 blind nuts of the same diameter

  7. 3 boards previously cut to the following dimensions: 55 x 30 cm
  8. 1 drill

  9. 1 wick with a diameter slightly greater than that of the stems (here we took 12 mm)
  10. 1 meter and 1 pencil

1 — Drill the first shelf. For this, mark the location of the holes at the 4 corners about 2 cm from the edge, using the meter. Then drill straight.

2 — Drill the other shelves. To obtain well-aligned holes between the different shelves, use the first shelf as a guide. Check the alignment using the metal rods.

3 — Paint and stain the elements. For this, apply the chosen finish on the wooden shelves in accordance with the product instructions. Here, the tinted varnish was applied in 2 layers with intermediate sanding, using a suitable roller. Using the bomb, paint the threaded rods as well as the nuts and bolts. Do not hesitate to pass several layers to paint the hollows of the thread. Allow to dry until heart-dried before screwing a nut in the center of each stem.

4 — Install the base of the shelf. For this, introduce the end of the rods into the holes of the board that will be down. Screw a nut under the board, stop at the flower of the stem as in the photo on the left below. The rod must not exceed, the board will come to rest on the 4 nuts thus positioned, which will serve as feet. Straighten the structure and screw nuts to the height chosen for the middle shelf. Then thread the second board into the rods until it comes up against the middle nuts. Use one level so that the shelves are horizontal.

5 — Finally, screw a nut on the top of each rod a few centimeters from the end. Thread the last board and screw the blind bolt over it. If necessary adjust the position of the bolts to obtain perfectly straight shelves. Again, help the level if needed. Finish the installation by fixing the furniture at a point on the wall with a suitable system to ensure its stability.

6 — It’s over! You can change the height of the shelves by simply moving the bolts to the desired height, or add elements to your structure.
